THE STORY OF ASILI

At Asili Jewelry, our mission is to craft original, handcrafted jewelry that celebrates Africa as the cradle of creativity, culture, and connection. Rooted in the Swahili word Asili, meaning "origin" we are committed to honoring African heritage through timeless designs that tell powerful stories.

Founded in 2021 by Paul Wainaina, Joshua Kimani, and Wilberforce Idachi, Asili Jewelry was born from a shared vision sparked by Paul’s transformative 2019 visit to Kenya. Inspired by the vibrant artistry and the growing demand for authentic African jewelry in the U.S., we set out to create a brand that bridges continents and brings people closer to their roots.

Each piece is handcrafted in Nairobi by skilled artisans who infuse every detail with meaning, pride, and culture. We are dedicated to empowering these artisans by paying fair wages and ensuring they benefit directly from their craftsmanship. Though over 30% of the world’s natural resources come from Africa—including the materials used in common jewelry—most jewelry is made elsewhere in factories far from source. Asili Jewelry is here to change that, by investing in African talent and keeping the creative process on the continent where it began.
